About Nicole

marcandiWelcome to Dula Notes! My name is Nicole and I have so many little interests, but whipping up culinary delights for friends and family is where it’s at. I just love how food brings people together. In addition to cooking and baking, I also enjoy PBS, Etsy, my Netflix queue, J. Crew, modern home design and art, fuzzy blankets, bike rides, Jane Austen, good friends, my family and most of all, my perfect match and husband, Marc. He appreciates good food, but has a serious weakness for Taco Bell, Mike’n'Ikes and pretzels. He makes a mean cocktail and that comes in handy. I started this blog in March of 2009 because friends and family ask for recipes and tips and I’m hoping I have something to offer anyone who visits. I excessively try new recipes and break the rules by almost always trying something new when I’m entertaining.

I’m a life-long Michigan gal with a teaching/English degree and a full-time job that has nothing to do with my degree. I fortunately enjoy my job and am lucky enough to work with really cool people. I even have a small group of fans that are happy to take care of any leftovers from my cooking and baking adventures.

I call my blog Dula Notes, because Dula is my new-ish last name and I rather like it. There’s no great story behind how I named the blog, but I’ve been known to call my husband “Dula” and I use our last name in everyday language. You may remember The Smurfs and how they used words like smurftastic and smurferrific. I believe things can also be Dulatastic, but this is family jargon and I promise not to call a great recipe Dulatastic. This blog is simply this Dula’s notes on food and life.

Thanks for stopping by!

Nicole
